I often find myself thinking, "This has to be the MOST beautiful place in the world!
This reocurring pattern of thought tells me two things:
1. I'm absolutely positive that my family uses the most superlatives of any family in the world! (See what I mean? And yes, Dad, I'm talking about you.)
2. I've been privileged to see some really breathtakingly beautiful places.
Let's start with Seattle...
Shortly before I left, I found myself standing on the roof of my apartment building at sunset.
It was one of those days that Seattle just shone with all its glory.
I just kept slowly turning in circles...gaping at the Cascades...the Olympics...Mt. Rainier.
The Cascades...the Olympics...Mt. Rainier.
I couldn't get enough.
I took it all in......every last drop of sunshine...so I could hold it in my heart while I was half way around the world.
Now I don't think I even need to mention the lake...
If you know me even one little bit you know that Coeur d'Alene is my heart.
Certainly the beauty of this place is magnified by all the memories of love and family I have there.
Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge looking back at the Manhattan skyline...cresting a ridge that revealed the astounding vastness of the Himalayas...following the worn cobblestones streets of Florence...all moments of beauty beyond belief.
Well, my newest MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE IN THE WORLD?
Sani Pass...South Africa/Lesotho.
It's a no-man's land of sorts...a treacherous mountain pass nestled between two countries.
You can't help but be in complete awe of Mother Nature as you descended through its folding, meandering ridges.
I kept thinking it looked straight out of Lord of the Rings...only to find out that, in fact, J.R.R. Tolkien penned parts of his famous trilogy here while serving in the Royal Air Force.
It is easily a place that inspires both quiet contemplation and life-affirming whoops of joy.
