Although I've loved, loved, loved all the other books I've read by John Krakauer, I was hesitant to read Where Men Win Glory. I never found myself in the mood to immerse myself in the daily struggles of soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. I can't get through a thirty second news clip about the death of a young man or woman at war without tears rolling down my face. Thus I wasn't sure I could make it through Where Men Win Glory.
However, I needed a change of pace so I picked it up. Yes, yes...I'm sure glad I did! Yes, I bawled all the way through it, but this book offered such an insightful protrayal of a fascinating man in the crux of a historical and controversial war that it was worth every tear.
I know, I know...a very interesting first book to review on my girly-artsy blog, but I'd really recommend you give it a try.
