Kristoff's opening line reminds me of a quote a think of often by anthropologist, Stephen Jay Gould:
"I am somehow less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that those of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops."
I think about this idea as I look at the faces of the babies in the safe-house.
What if this child had enough food to eat every day?
What if this child had the ARVs he needed to make his HIV a manageable condition?
What if?
