We had a very special visitor drop by today.
I was so happy to see this sweet face.
Mamello has been back with her family for about a month and half.
For the most part she is doing very well.
She's maintaining her weight.
She's taking her ARVs daily.
She's a happy four year old.
However, thinking about Mamello's life stirs that internal struggle I think we all feel when we reunite a child with their family and the overall situation is less than ideal.
I have no doubt that reunification is the best option for most of the children we work with.
Growing up with one's family in one's home village has so much value.
But I still wish I could just keep this sweet girl by my side.
I guess I'll just have to settle for smile every now and again and be thankful that she is strong and healthy and at home with a family that loves her deeply.
